Zandra Rhodes: Unseen - Fashion and Textile Museum in London.

PL:
Dziś chciałabym opisać wam moja wizytę w Fashion and Textille Museum w Londynie.

ENG:
Today I’m going to describe my trip to Fashion and Textile Museum in London. I found this museum when I read through travel guide. I wanted to visit a place, which isn’t the highlight of London. Fashion and Textile Museum is located on Bermondsey Street (underground station: London Bridge).
When I arrived to the museum, I realized that in August I can see the exhibition related to Zandra Rhodes (in this museum there are only temporary exhibitions). I must admit that I hadn’t heard about her before but I decided to get in and see something new for me.
When I came back to my room I wanted to look for some information about Rhodes. She is a British fashion designer. She was born on 1940. She studied at Royal College of Arts and she is famous for collaboration with Freddie Mercury.
On the Internet I also found that Zandra’s works are also known as very colorful, vibrant projects and indeed all clothes, which were shown in the museum, were also very shining.  The most interesting part of exhibition contained a lot of stuff like sketches, notes, brushes and paints, which were used by Zandra during designing. We seldom have a chance to see not only clothes but also tools which were used to make them. Afterwards I watched the collection which was full of beading dresses. Some of them looked similar to Indian sari, because Zandra wanted to show her own interpretation of this traditional Indian apparel (she was one of the British designers to stage fashion shows in India). Upstairs I was able to see collection called “Conceptual Chic” which was made in 1977. This collection delighted some and shocked many, because it was related to punk culture. It was mainly based on black or shocking pink clothes which were torn and decorated with safety pins. I could also see recent collection consist of dresses made from prints taken directly from Zandra’s sketchbooks.
I want to ad that museum was opened in 2003 by Zandra Rhodes, and this exhibition was prepared to celebrate the tenth birthday of the museum.
In my opinion this museum is really worth visiting, even if Zandra Rhodes exhibition is coming to end. Forthcoming exhibitions seem to be interesting also (you can check the calendar here).  Moreover the museum offers some courses from illustrating to using Photoshop.
Below you can see some pictures which I took during my visit.
