What can we also see in London?

Po opublikowaniu posta o Zandrze Rhodes zdałam sobie sprawę, że chętnie napisałabym jeszcze jedną notkę o moich ulubionych miejscach w Londynie. Wybrałam więc moją top trójkę.

Covent Garden.

Każdy kto był w Londynie na wakacjach jako Covent Garden kojarzy jedynie rynek na głównym placu, który jest zawsze pełen turystów oraz straganów z bibelotami i pamiątkami. Obok możemy znaleźć również Royal Opera House i Muzeum Transportu.  Musimy jednak wiedzieć, że Covent Garden jest jeszcze nazwą całej dzielnicy. Spacerowanie wąskimi uliczkami takimi jak np. Neal Street było bardzo przyjemne. Znalazłam tam dużo tych samych sieciówek, które możemy znaleźć na Oxford Street ale bez tamtego tłoku i w ładniejszej i spokojniejszej scenerii .

Wracając jeszcze na chwilę do tematu głównego placu, muszę dodać, że możemy zobaczyć tam ciekawe (czasem dziwne) przedstawienia oraz miejsce, które zaraz opiszę dokładniej.

The Cupcakes Bakehouse

Ta piękna babkarnia znajduje się w głównym budynku Covent Garden. Wszystkie babeczki wyglądają ładnie i widać, że są bardzo dopracowane z dbałością o szczegóły takie jak np. kolorowy krem czy lukier. Można więc nacieszyć na tylko podniebienie, ale i oko. Sama jestem fanką babeczek i dość często piekę je w domu, jednak w porównaniu z babeczkami z Bakehouse, moje wyglądają marnie. Cała babkarnia jest malutka jednak znajdzie się tam parę miejsc siedzących, gdzie możemy delektować się naszą babeczką i serwowaną tam też kawą.

Somerset House

Każdy miłośnik mody wie, że to właśnie tam odbywają się londyńskie tygodnie mody. Ja nie miałam okazji odwiedzić tego miejsca podczas modowego święta jednak miałam dość szczęścia, by odwiedzić ciekawą wystawę. Zobaczyłam kolekcję zdjęć Erwina Blumenfeld’a jednego z najbardziej znanych fotografów porterowych i modowych. Jak na Somerset House przystało, trzonem wystawy były fotografie oraz okładki z magazynów takich jak Vogue and Harper’s Bazaar pochodzących z lat 40 i 50.

Harrods

Jest to chyba najbardziej popularne londyńskie centrum handlowe co czyni go jedną z największych atrakcji turystycznych. Znany jest zarówno z różnorodnego asortymentu jak i niecodziennego wystroju wnętrza inspirowanego egipskimi piramidami.  Jest to luksusowe miejsce gdzie goście jadący schodami na górę mogą posłuchać operowego śpiewu na żywo. Ja byłam oszołomiona faktem, że mogłam obejrzeć na żywo kreacje wszystkich projektantów, które dotychczas miałam okazję widzieć tylko w czasopismach. Z koleżanką spędziłyśmy sporo czasu w królestwie zwierząt. Ciekawie było zobaczyć jak cenne mogą być psie obroże oraz zabawki dla kotów.

Na koniec chciałabym jeszcze wspomnieć o Trafalgar Square oraz The Strand. Lubiłam chodzić tam popołudniami bo według mnie jest to dobry punkt obserwacyjny zarówno turystów jak i londyńczyków ich strojów oraz czerpania inspiracji.

After posting a note about Zandra Rhodes exhibition I realized that I want to describe more places which I had a chance to enjoy in London. This is my top three.

Covent Garden

When you usually think about Covent Garden we think about the market building in the central square. This building is always full of tourists. We can find here some shops and stalls with souvenirs and other interesting stuff. Royal Opera House and London Transport Museum are also located near to the central square. We need to know that Covent Garden is also the name of the whole district. I really enjoyed walking along narrow streets like Neal Street, I found there some shops and chain stores. We have some same shops as on Oxford Street but without the crowd and the surrounding is better and calmer.

I need to ad that on the central square we can see some interesting (sometimes weird) performances and we can find here the nice place which I want to describe below.

The Cupcake Bakehouse

It is a really pleasant place located in the central square Covent Garden. All cupcakes look really nice and they are so well prepared with all details like cream and icing. I really like baking cupcakes at home but comparing with these cupcakes my cakes look so poor. The shop is tiny but there are some seats so you can sit and enjoy your cupcake and coffee which is served here also.

Somerset House

All fashion lovers know that Somerset House is a proud host of London Fashion Weeks. Unfortunately I wasn’t able to visit this place during the fashion feast but I was lucky enough to visit interesting exhibition. I saw a collection of Erwin Blumenfeld photos. He was a portrait and fashion photographer in the 1940s and 1950s. I watched some photos and covers from Harper’s Bazaar and Vogue which were published during 40s and 50s.

Harrods

I guess that Harrods is the most popular shopping centre in London which makes it very popular tourist attraction. It’s famous for the wide assortment and also interesting interior design inspired with Egyptian pyramids. It’s very luxurious shopping centre where woman sings opera songs on the balcony near the stairs. Personally I was amazed by big amount of clothes from famous fashion designers which I had seen only in the magazines before. I was there with my friend and we also spent some time in the pet kingdom. It was an unusual experience to see, how precious  dog collars and cat’s toys could be.  

I want to mention about the Trafalgar Square and The Strand. I visited these places quite often during my stay because for me it’s a good point where we can observe both tourists and Londoners, their clothing and find some inspiration.
